In Christ, death is only but a shadow, because Jesus, the overseer of our souls, is with us (1 Peter 2:25). Because He is with us, so even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil (Psalm 23:4).
In Christ, our soul will not die, because Christ had died that death on our behalf. When Jesus cried in agony on the cross, saying, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?!” (Matthew 27:46), Jesus suffered death, the painful separation with God the Father, to pay the price of our sins so that we can be spared from the suffering the same death of being separated with God because of our own sins. With that foundation, Jesus gave us His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
Though our body may be destroyed, our soul continues to live on in Christ.
Because eternal life is all about having a personal relationship with the Father, the only true God, and also with Jesus, whom the Father has sent (John 17:3), we have already started our eternal life here on earth when we have salvation in Christ. By definition, our relationship with God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit lasts forever. Our life in eternality started on earth has no end. It will continue on beyond our last earthly breath.
So live our eternal life here on earth well while we still have our breath in our body:
- We live FROM victory in power and authority that is in the name of Jesus (A prayer for living an abundant life).
- We live FROM freedom of fear. Those who kill the body cannot touch our soul (Matthew 10:28) that is protected by Christ Himself. What can man do to us?
- We live FROM His Kingdom: setting our eyes on things above (Colossians 3:1-2), letting Him glorify Himself in and through us as we trust and obey Christ’s lordship in our lives.
At the same time we long for that day to come when we will leave our body behind so our soul can continue to live with Christ forever!
O Death, where are your thorns?! (Hosea 13:14)
