It is easy to be empathic with Moses’ impossible situation: at the most critical moment when the enemy was fast approaching and no possible path forward, the people that God entrusted him to lead were panicking, complaining, and behaving irrationally. What could Moses do as a leader? How would you lead if you were in Moses’ shoes?
Despite of the desperation, Moses still put his trust in God. He took the lead to point people back to God. With words of encouragement, Moses pleaded to the Isralites: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. [Exodus 14:13,14]” Moses demonstrated admirable faith in such seemingly hopeless circumstances .
Despite of Moses admirable faith, his cry to God was not responded with immediate divine intervention. Much to our surprise, God passed the buck back to Moses, saying, “Why are you crying out to me? [Exodus 14:15]” Jesus did the same to His disciples, telling them,“You give them something to eat.”, when the disciples presented the problem of the hungry crowd to Jesus.
Faith is NOT wishful thinking
Faith in God is not wishful thinking during impossible circumstances.
Faith Acts in Alignment with God’s Revelation That is not yet
When God responded to Moses saying, “Why are you crying out to me?”, when Jesus told His disciples to feed the crowd themselves, God is saying:
“I have already equipped you with the power and authority you need for the ministry I have called you for. Step forward and start ministering in your calling. What and who are you waiting for?”
For Moses, his faith must lead him to act in the situation by raising the staff, an ordinary everyday object in Moses’ life that God anointed for Moses to perform signs with God’s divine power and authority [Exodus 4:17]. Moses’ faith is based on God’s revelation of His heart to deliver the Israelites.
For Jesus’ disciples, their faith must lead them to act in the situation by blessing the five loaves and two fish and portioning them out to the crowd. Disciples had little faith. But Jesus was pushing them for more faith.
What about us?
What we already know about what is dear to God’s heart and what His hands are doing?
In what ways our faith must lead us to act as we fill with such knowledge?
We step into God’s calling by exercising what Jesus has already equipped us with even though His destiny for our lives may still be yet to come.
Before Jesus was crucified, He told His disciples that He has equipped His disciples with everything we need for the Kingdom ministry. Jesus has equipped us with:
- Power and authority in Jesus name: In Jesus name, we bind down any scheme from the evil one to steal from God’s destiny for our lives. In Jesus name, we proclaim His calling and purposes for our lives to come to pass.
- Guidance and wisdom from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit: Through prayers, we seek God’s guidance to navigate our storms in Godly wisdom.
- Heavenly wisdom from the Truth of His Word
- Encouragement and building up from the fellowship of the saints
Each of us is uniquely been anointed with:
A special set of gifting: we have to start acting in faith by “lifting up the staff”. If you feel God has called you to write, start writing. If you have conviction that God has called you to heal the sick, start your healing ministry.
Enabling People: God has also placed people in our lives to enable us, or provide a way out in our storm and get us on our way into our divine destiny. It may be it is certain individuals who take notice of your talents or to grow you.
Ordained circumstances: opportunities may present themselves as sequence of unusual circumstances. Then the door is opened by the Lord and nobody can shut it anymore [Isaiah 22:2].
Faith Actions Release the Radiant Glory of God
When God created the universe, His Word was spoken into the void, then creation came into being afterwards. Faith action is similar. Faith action is like learning to float, but we must first act as if we can float, though we have never experience floating before, by relaxing our entire body over water, then the floating with catch up with us.
Moses must start to act in alignment of God’s revelation by lifting up his staff. The rest of heaven came into motion as a result. The angel of God withdrew from the front and went behind Moses and the Israelites. The pillar of cloud also moved from the front and stood behind them. [Exodus 14:19,20] His faith action released the radiant glory of God for the land to see as God parted the Red sea right in front of everyone’s eyes.
